2014 Update - Part Two

dinghy parts and repairs

Rolled on three coats of the magic Resene Durapox Epoxy undercoat and long boarded them back to the substrate. Prefer to apply the undercoats with a small 90mm roller to work the paint into any pinholes.

Filled any low lying areas with polyester 2K filler ready for a final sand and application of two more undercoats.

Sanding best done outside, neighbours are used to seeing boats being worked on.

When working on the boat whilst it is upside down, replace the back cradle on the beach trolley with a padded length of 4x2. Keeps it all nice and stable.

Hard work done, sitting outside for a few days to fully cure the PPG 579 2K Polyurethane topcoat. Colour is officially Toyota Cool White, but more like duck egg blue.

Many thanks to Bart at NZRigging Ltd for the paint sponsorship.

The odyssey is at an end, the final rebuild phase has been completed. Ready for its first sail in the new rocker profile configuration.

Initial results indicate that she tracks to windward way, way better. Much less use of the helm to maintain height.

Only need to do a full measurement on the boat and issue a new certificate.

Hanging from the scales. 117Kg. No correctors. Cool. Now what will she swing at?

Lowering the hull onto the swing support frames.

On the graph but not at its optimum.

We have the centre of gravity at 2190mm. Meaning the bow is a bit heavy.

A major mishap at the South Island Champs forced another update so we will try and rectify the slightly heavy weight and not the best weight distribution when we modify the boat for the final (yes absolutely) time. View the 2015 Update.
